Description

Atlantic Canada has a rich tradition of country music – from Anne Murray to Hank Snow and Don Messier’s Jubilee from the shores of Prince Edward Island…rural fishing and farming communities gathered around radios and dance halls to the lonesome sounds of the fiddle, accordion and that westbound train.

From the isolated great Northern Peninsula on the Island of Newfoundland to small Sibley’s Cove and the outskirts of St. John’s would come three women steeped in a history of place and of harmony. In rural Newfoundland as long as folks could recall, music was often the only form of recreation. As a result the province punches way above its weight when it comes to talent and these three songbirds are no exception.

The Secrets met in college studying performance and recording. Quickly discovering a natural blend to not only their voices but their musical aspirations as well; they traded jigs and reels for whiskey, mandolins and faded jeans.

This captivating country folk trio is made up of Newfoundland’s Karla Pilgrim, Terri Lynn Eddy and Renée Batten. All accomplished solo performers, each has seen East Coast Music Association and Music Newfoundland and Labrador nominations for their efforts but it is together they have experienced the greatest recognition. After opening for Country Music Legend Alan Jackson on his 2010 Freight Train Tour, The Secrets would perform in front of 18,000 in three short days.

A direct result of their success at those concerts, the secret is now out! Last summer they started their own rumors as far away as Vancouver Island on their first cross Canada tour which will saw stops in Saskatchewan at The Ness Creek Festival, Nova Scotia at The prestigious Stan Rogers Folk Festival and everywhere in between. Their proficiency as not only vocalists but on a variety of stringed instruments has captivated audiences coast to coast.
