On their second outing, Mercury Topaz have begun to\u00a0incorporate new elements into their post-cold wave sound. You can hear Zappa<\/strong>-isms and hints of Ween<\/strong> creeping into the sound, although the solid melodic foundation is still there.<\/p>\n

Mercury Topaz<\/strong> (Victor Lewis and Brad Power) follow their collective muse producing an easy blast of pop pieces. \u00a0Little bits of Zappa-esque vocal styilings permeate the mix, a scattering of 70s R&B grooves and you just know Paul McCartney<\/strong> would get off on the jams. \u00a0Track 7 could have been a Joy Division<\/strong> demo. \u00a0You have to luv these guys.<\/p>\n

Victor Lewis<\/strong> (a.k.a. Vickee Lou<\/strong>, Vic Lou<\/strong>, etc.) is arguably\u00a0Newfoundland’s\u00a0most innovative and eclectic indie-pop artist. \u00a0We liken him to a young David Bowie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Brad Power<\/strong>\u00a0is highly recognizable on the St. John’s circuit. \u00a0Modestly calling himself “just a guitar player”, everyone in town and beyond, from the past greats to the young slingers consider Brad the most\u00a0dexterous\u00a0and talented guitarist on the scene – and that’s a fact.<\/p>\n
