“Jim\u2019s thirty-five year career with the railroad\u00a0began in Halifax, NS. He then transferred to\u00a0Newfoundland and Labrador where he spent the\u00a0remainder of his career until the railroad\u2019s\u00a0closure in 1988. Jim\u2019s love and passion for the\u00a0railroad were obvious to anyone close to him.<\/p>\n

In later years Jim expressed his love and\u00a0passion in the many songs that he wrote and\u00a0sang (although he would tell you very quickly\u00a0that singing was not his calling). \u00a0 Some of\u00a0Jim\u2019s songs were recorded on two CDs. \u00a0 In\u00a0these songs Jim sang enthusiastically about\u00a0his experiences on the railroad. \u00a0Jim\u2019s first song titled, \u201cI Love Working on the\u00a0Railroad\u201d speaks passionately about how he\u00a0fell in love with the railroad: \u201cListening to the\u00a0humming of the wheels-clicking of the\u00a0joins rocking\u00a0in the curbs.\u201d \u00a0 In other songs Jim\u00a0provides vivid memories and pictures of the\u00a0train: \u201cMoving with a full head of steam,\u00a0around the mountain side, climbing big hill,\u00a0easing down the grade, crossing the bog,
\ngoing through deep snow cuts and around\u00a0blind rock cuts.”<\/p>\n
