“On Rum and Religion” marked the debut of Norris Arm’s own Chris Kirby. With a penchant for witty lyricism, insanely catchy hooks and fantastic keys and guitar chops, Kirby has, in a relatively short time, established himself as the premier soul, rhythm and blues player on the island. His later records rely heavily on the RnB component with an emphasis on electric piano, but there is no doubt that “On Rum and Religion” is a hearty dose of the blues. He is a young man with an old soul and this is the album that introduced him to us.
