There is no greater or better exponent of Country and Western music in Newfoundland than the MusicNL award winner, Craig Young. But Craig is not your billboard Top 40 C&W. He’s a little Merle Haggard mixed with a dose of Townes Van Zandt and Rodney Crowell. As a guitarist think Glen Campbell meets Marty Stuart – an exquisite picker, astute and soulful. This solo show is the “Jewel of the Crown” in his canon to date.

The 4th full length release from St. John’s favourite indie rockers exhibits all these qualities in their most mature and grand offering yet.

Her songs, like still waters, run deep. Forgiveness, mercy, and life’s mistakes are potent themes in the songs of this St. John’s singer/songwriter who addresses these issues with an empathetic perspective and eloquent language. Curran’s sound marries acoustic folk and textured pop sensibilities, lending range to her metaphor-rich verses delivered with an “old-soul’s voice”.

On this, her latest CD, we find Amelia at her most tuneful and upbeat; less Leonard Cohen and more Tom Petty or Warren Zevon. But Amelia’s metaphor-rich lyrics are still as constant as a northern star. This record will attract a new mess of fans and expand her audience with pop sensibilities not unlike Sarah Harmer and Kathleen Edwards.

St. John’s singer/songwriter Jerry Stamp delivers the most powerful and impressive album of his career. Think Father John Misty, Radiohead, Dave Matthews, Jeff Buckley, and Rufus Wainwright in a musical ball of twine. Jerry’s most dynamic qualities: amazing voice, romantic introspective lyrics and smack on instrumentation, are all peaking on Rogue Doubt. An esoteric and dextrous artist deserving of massive attention.
