Dope Piece – Dopeace

Jacob Piercey, aka dopepiece, is a local hip-hop artist who has been steadily garnering an impressive buzz for himself. His music videos are littered with nostalgic VHS aesthetic, and his cadence comes equipped with a weirdly tolerable high-pitched swagger as he manages to deliver his punchlines with a rapid fire technique between each bar.

Karrie Obed & Mark Turner – Imgiguset/Trumpet Hymns

These songs were recorded in the summer of 2015. The idea came when Karrie Obed (tenor) traveled to Herrnhut, Germany to participate as a member of the Nain Brass Band in the annual Blasertreffen der Brudergemeine (Moravian Brass Band Festival). Karrie plays euphonium and trumpet in the Nain Band. Their repertoire includes most of the hymns on this recording. The international participants in the festival were eager to hear these melodies with their Inuktitut texts. So Karrie and Mark Turner, who coaches the Nain Brass Band, performed them as duets with the soprano line on trumpet and Karrie singing the tenor. This isn’t a traditional way of performing these hymns which are usually sung in four parts by Inuit congregations or choirs or played by brass bands alone. This recording is a way of bringing these two performance traditions together.
