“One of the most accomplished choirs in Canada’s Atlantic province of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble (QVE) was formed in St. John’s in 1993 by alumni of the award-winning Holy Heart of Mary High School Chamber Choir and their conductor Susan Quinn, out of a desire that their musical experiences together might contunue.  The choir now draws together some 40 members with diverse backgrounds in music, work and study, and is known for its primarily a cappella repertoire of many diverse styles and periods.”

“In 2005, Shallaway brought to fruition its project Ann and Seamus. This project was born of Shallaway’s continuing vision that centres on the celebration of and contribution to Newfoundland and Labrador culture through the creation and performance of new artworks. Stephen Hatfield was commissioned for words and music, and Jillian Keiley designed and directed the production. The opera premiered at Memorial University to great success in June 2005. In July 2006 it toured North America, with performances in Ottawa, Toronto, St. Catharine’s and Washington, DC, in the summer of 2008, Shallaway toured Ireland and Denmark giving performances in Waterford, Cork and at the World Choral Symposium in Copenhagen.”

“Quest includes an eclectic mix of music with four new works commissioned by Shallaway. A special feature of the recording is a spiritual arrangement by Dr. Horace Clarence Boyer, a professional gospel singer and one of the United States foremost authorities on gospel music. The arrangement of “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” was commissioned by Shallaway and Dr. Boyer personally collaborated in the recording session in St. John’s.

This recording contains both live concert and studio recorded performances. Of the live performances in particular, One Drop took place in Vancouver at the World of Children’s Choirs Symposium in 2001, The Green Shores of Fogo in St. John’s at the finals of the CBC national competition for Amateur Choirs in 2002, and The Ballad of Skipper Knight in St. John’s at Festival 500 in 2003. Each of these pieces were commissioned either by or for Shallaway and composed or arranged by Stephen Hatfield.”

“Shamrock have been having a good time since 1993. That’s how long the guys have been playing selective club gigs along with a summer folk festival circuit.

Playing is considered their fun time away from the stresses regular day jobs. And when the fun stops so will Shamrcok.

But thank goodness for their growing fan base that fun has translated into many a good time and two CD releases. Thier latest CD, “With Us All The While” is pretty close to the sound you’ll hear at one of their live shows. And the guys wouldn’t have it any other way.”
