Michelle Noftall – Roots In The Water

Michelle Noftall stepped onto the local music stage in 2015 with her debut album, “Songs for a Winter Night”, which earned her a MusicNL nomination of Female Artist of the Year.

Michelle’s singing style has been compared to the likes of Karen Carpenter and Joni Mitchell, and her warm, rich vocals are a unique sound that can be attributed to both her classical formal training (as an alumni of MUN School of Music) and her love of folk and country music.
“Roots in the Water” is her latest release. Inspired by her fascinating family tree, it is a concept album of music that will carry the listener on a musical journey from Barbados to Newfoundland, with stories and songs of love and loss that is sure to touch the hearts of listeners and prove to be a worthy addition to our province’s folk music collection.

Rube & Rake – Back and Forth

The latest album from local duo, Rube & Rake (Andrew Laite & Josh Sandu)

In a world where most artists tend to expand their arrangements, sometimes overcooking the results, this St. John’s based duo concentrates on the basics-the pure. Featuring acoustic guitars and banjo, these troubadour tales are delivered in a quilt of sterling close vocal harmony. The artistry and craft applied to their songs is the result of true musical fellowship. One can imagine the magic of the folk music heyday when a young Gordon Lightfoot emerged on the nations landscape. He would have been in the coffee house or tavern taking in the entire set by this duo and their thought-provoking numbers reflecting the hearts and eyes of road tested travelers. The best folk/roots music reveals our connectedness to each other and Rube & Rake hit in on the head with this acoustic/harmony delight.

Don Jamieson Remembers – An Old Fashioned St. John’s Christmas

Historically and culturally, this is a truly significant Newfoundland recording.
The late public servant and broadcaster conjures up vivid imagery of a bygone era with his God-given deep resonant baritone. This is the local equivalent to Dylan Thomas’ “A Child’s Christmas in Wales.” Not since Ted Russell’s “Tales of Pigeon Inlet” has a CD document of this prominence and nature been issued.
This item will have a special appeal for the province’s senior population. Don Jamieson’s clear and marvellous oratorical prowess will revive past magic of old-fashioned radio shows. Great listening for a long drive or for kickin’ back in your favourite chair by the fire
